When Jesus was asked what would be the highest precept, he answered, "Shema Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad" - "Hear oh Yisrael, that the Lord our God the Lord is One." This is an all encompassing unity, as the Bible states in the first verses in original Hebrew that there was "one day" instead of "the first day". This means that the first day of creation represented a unity of polarities like day and night. Later we read of man and woman, that they should become "one flesh" that there will be no separation between them, although they're seemingly two separate individuals. Jesus said that he and his father are one, which means that they're spiritually a complete unity. And so also his followers should become one, as he is one with his father. Meant is the unity in community.
Nothing can exist without God's will, and no one can do anything against His will. And even when we see evil in the world, the reason for this is that it's His will. God is the author of everything. There is no equally powerful force that acts as an antagonist against the power of God. This means that God Himself is responsible for the good as well as the evil, as the prophet Isaiah 45:7 (KJV) states: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." Although there exists a spiritually impure system that we often call "the other side" or "the worlds of the impure," nothing in the universe and all the worlds beyond it can do anything without His permission. And God created the world this way to give man the free choice between good and evil. On the one hand, the system of impurity is a safe mechanism that ensures the light of God won't reach the unworthy; on the other hand, it is a system that executes punishment for the evildoers. Our entire selfish world nourishes itself from the system of impurity. Most people live their entire lives as in a dark room, where only sometimes, perhaps, a small ray of light would be penetrating through the keyhole. Those small rays of light are awakenings from above. Sometimes a jogger, for example, actually can penetrate with his consciousness into the upper world, but for him at the end of the day those inspirations were probably just good emotions on a good day.
All complex descriptions of Kabbalah, no matter if we call them Sefirot, Partzufim, Olamot, etc., describe only expansions and contractions of consciousness, also called ascents and descents. God in His infinite benevolence sometimes draws us closer to Him, while at other times rejects us. Those rejections or descents are deemed as spiritual corrections. Only in the descents do we realize how far we are away from God. The descents are actually the greatest supports. The night is often regarded as greater than the day because only at night - meant is, when we don't feel the light of God at all - we realize how much we need Him.
